Solving Authentic Problems through Engineering Design

Abstract The importance of STEAM education in preparing students to deal with societal challenges is nowadays an international recommendation. We may find different perspectives concerning and the integration its disciplines. A possible pathway achieve a balanced through Engineering Design (ED), starting from problems reality that enable articulated mobilization concepts various disciplinary areas, promoting interdisciplinary where teamwork context play fundamental role. This article reports study primary preservice teachers (6–12 years old) aims analyze learning displayed difficulties underlying usage ED solving problems. participants were 45 teachers. adopted qualitative methodology, data collected observation, documents, artifacts, photos. preliminary results show very positive reaction experience real collaboratively mobilizing mathematical physical science integrated way. identified active engagement, persistence, motivation creation model fulfilled requested conditions. Difficulties evidenced identification some adequate scientific language argumentation decisions.
